Mike Derrett is the owner of Mike Derrett Marine which specializes in providing ‘Business solutions for boating businesses’. Since 1989 we have carried out market research, strategic planning and establish dealer networks for our clients worldwide.
Our specialty is the developing boating markets of the world and the business is recognized as one of the leading authorities on the marine industry in Asia and the Gulf States. Mike Derrett Marine has carried out projects in 46 countries worldwide, and has a detailed knowledge of the Gulf and Asia boating markets.
Mike Derrett is a member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing and frequently speaks at seminars and market briefings for the International Marine Industry and is a regular contributor with market reports and articles on the Gulf States and Asia for the magazine ‘International Boat Industry’ and the on line news web site www.ibinews.com
Mike started his career in the leisure boat industry in 1973 and worked in sales and project management for a leisure boat manufacturer and for a workboat and high speed military boat builder before starting his own consultancy business in 1989. The client list over the past 30 years includes leading boat and equipment manufacturers such as Abu Dhabi Shipbuilding, Arasens, Bavaria Yachts, Brunswick, Fairline, Fabio Buzzi Marine, FBM Marine UK, Ferretti Group, Gulf Craft, Navico UK, Riva and Volvo Penta. Mike has also consulted on marina development projects for clients in the Gulf States of Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Qatar and Oman as well as in India and Vietnam.
Mike Derrett has also extensively worked in the boat show and conference sector as an advisor to the Dubai World Trade Centre for the Dubai International Boat Show from 2001 to 2006 and was also instrumental in the creation of the first Gyeonggi Marine Festival and International Boat Show in South Korea in 2008. He was honoured to be appointed Special Advisor to Governor Kim Moon soo for this project in 2009.
